It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see.

GOLD LEAF SERIES
With the use of gold leaf, a painting's appearance can shift as light falls upon it throughout the day or with a change of perspective while moving about a room, not dissimilar to how our lives are in a constant state of change and evolution. I find beauty in these reflections. The gold presents itself differently with each attempt to lay it upon the surface. Each one is unique, opening a window through which to contemplate what we are seeing.
HALF FULL SERIES
The Half Full series is an exploration of texture and color starting with no preconceived idea. The process involves building layers, removing areas, adding color, scraping, sanding and glazing. All done with a subconscious freedom of movement and play.
Drawing, for me, is mostly a physical experience. When graphite meets paper all time is lost. Le Corbusier said that “the only way to truly understand something is to draw it.” It is a meditative labor of observation, a means to present objects and beings in the most basic manner. The physical act of bringing life to paper helps to foster a deeper and richer understanding of the world around me.
