It is the function of art to renew our perception. What we are familiar with we cease to see.
- Anais Nin
My interest in art began at an early age and primarily involved realistic drawing. Having an outdoorsman as a father, I spent the majority of my childhood on the water or in the forest. As I began experimenting with color, I naturally found inspiration in the swamps, scrubs and the Gulf waters of Southwest Florida.
With an interest in evolving my style, I began to delve into abstraction. My current work is an exploration between and through layers, with the intent of creating a sense of place - a moment in time, often ethereal and unfocused but with a clear sense of a particular memory or place.
My hope is to create work that is felt and sensed rather than simply viewed, to slow down the way we look at art until looking becomes experience.
